The Equipment I Actually Use

Over two years, I’ve tested more than 100 pieces of equipment in my 600 sq ft LA apartment. These are the products that actually earned a permanent spot in my space—and the Amazon links below use my affiliate tag so I earn a small commission if you buy (at no extra cost to you).
Essential Strength Equipment
Adjustable Dumbbells (5-52.5 lbs)
The single best investment for a small home gym. These replaced 15 pairs of fixed weights and saved me 200 sq ft of floor space.
Space-Saving Cardio
Jump Rope
Takes up 2 inches of drawer space. Burns 200+ calories in 15 minutes. Best cardio ROI for apartments.
Recovery & Flexibility
Foam Roller
Game-changer for muscle recovery. I use this every single night before bed. Beats paying $100/month for massage therapy.
Resistance Bands Set
Five bands = unlimited exercise variations. Perfect for warming up, assisted pull-ups, and traveling. Cost per workout: basically free.
Essential Basics
Exercise Mat (6mm Thick)
Protects your floors and your joints. Worth every penny. Get 6mm minimum—anything thinner feels like working out on concrete.
Doorframe Pull-Up Bar
Installs in 30 seconds, no drilling. Best $25 I’ve ever spent on fitness equipment. Works for pull-ups, chin-ups, and hanging ab exercises.
Next-Level Equipment
Adjustable Bench
Folds flat, slides under bed. Opens up 50+ exercises you can’t do on the floor. Get one with incline adjustment.
Kettlebell (25-35 lbs)
One weight, hundreds of exercises. Swings, Turkish get-ups, goblet squats. Start with 25 lbs if you’re new, 35 lbs if you’ve been training.
Ab Roller
Hardest ab workout you’ll ever do. Takes up less space than a shoe. Warning: your core will hate you the first week.
Suspension Trainer
Bodyweight training system that attaches to any door. Like having a full gym in a bag. Great for travel.
